Children reading to dog to boost confidence

ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The Ector County library has a new way to motivate kids to read.

Clementine is a therapy dog, she's part of "Tail Waggin' Tutors" that allows children to read to dogs. This style of tutoring is designed to help children feel more comfortable reading.

"I think they [children] forget people are in the room and they relax with the dog," said library volunteer, Nancy Henderson. "The main benefit of reading to the dog is it's really designed to help readers that are not confident to read to a non judgmental dog that's not going to correct them or make them feel nervous if they don't get it exactly right."

Clementine has been visiting the library since September. You can catch her every Monday from 4:30-5:30 as long as the library is open.
