FLORENCE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Fifty-two-year-old Jacqueline Williams called 911 after flood waters swept her car into a creek in Florence Sunday Night. She was on the phone with dispatch when they lost contact with her.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey says she was later found dead in her car. Florence Police Chief Richard Thomas says Williams was caught in swift water on Briarhill Road and swept away.

We do get flooded areas," said Chief Thomas. "That road does go under, 469 goes under sometimes, but not in the magnitude we had last night, and not with the current we had. You could actually see the white caps coming across the road."

Officers were on the scene within moments of her 911 call but were not able to find the vehicle.

It was an emotional morning for Chief Thomas, who knew Williams, and tells us their children played baseball together.

"Words don't describe it, words don't describe it," added the Chief. "They're real good people, kids are good people. I hate that it happened. I knew them for a long time."

And from Thomas, a familiar message: Turn around, don't drown.

"We put up barricades, we block things off, and people drive around it. It's just not worth it," said Chief Thomas.
