ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa Chamber of Commerce is warning residents about a new scam involving the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

According to a press release, the chamber was contacted on Thursday about an alleged company called "Touchdown Sports" attempting to sell sponsorships and advertisements for t-shirts on behalf of UTPB.

"They do not have a contract with us," Steve Aicinena, Athletic Director at UTPB said in the press release. "What they are claiming is that 'A' person on campus told them they could proceed, and therefore is not legitimate. Anyone who is contacted by "Touchdown Sports" or any other organization that is not an employee of the (UTPB) athletic department or university should be considered unauthorized."

We're told the chamber also found reports of this same company (Touchdown Sports) attempting to target local Seminole business residents by claiming association with the Seminole School District in June of 2016.

"When in doubt, always give us a call. We want to protect our members from any kind of solicitation that is not on the up-and-up," said Reneé Earls, CEO/President of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce said in the release. "There are too many legitimate organizations to support, and it's unfortunate when people or businesses are targeted under false pretense."
