ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa College Board of Trustees discussed a campus carry policy for next school year.
Members have until August first to have a policy in place.
The members met this evening to evaluate ideas and plans on how they will go forward on their campus's open carry policy but they still need input from the community.
One board of trustee member wants to insure the public that the people carrying guns on campus will be well educated about the weapon they have.
"It's not going to be like the wild west where everyone is walking around carrying a 6 shooter. There's a difference, open carry vs conceal carry. Open carry is what you see with a police officer the gun is visible. Conceal carry is you really don't know that person has that. Both have to have a license to carry the gun."
Some areas on OC's campus will not allow guns.
There will be another round of discussion before the policy is finalized and announced to the public.
