Odessa police investigating kidnapping

The Odessa Police Department is investigating following a kidnapping.

Police said that on Monday around 1:30 p.m., a 33-year-old woman reported to police that a known person had assaulted her, causing bodily injury.

Police said back on Mar. 17 around midnight, the woman got into an argument with her 33-year-old boyfriend.

According to the report, the woman stated that her boyfriend physically picked her up and put her in his vehicle against her will. The woman also reported that when she tried to jump out of the vehicle, her boyfriend grabbed her arm and yanked her back into his vehicle.

The report also stated that the boyfriend stated that he was going to kill her.

Police said the vehicle later stopped near an abandoned oil rig and her boyfriend told her to get out of the vehicle.

That's when, police said, the boyfriend punched the woman in the head and attempted to light her on fire. Then, police added, the boyfriend tied a cord around her wrists and tied the cord to his vehicle before dragging her in the vehicle.

That's when, the woman stated, the boyfriend eventually stopped.

The woman said that she didn't first report the incident because she was fearful for her life.

Police have identified the suspect but his name has not yet been released. 

Currently, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The case is being investigated as a kidnapping.
