MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

It’s been record heat in West Texas and the Permian Basin and because of that Alonzo Talamantes, Co-Owner of One Way Heating and Air Conditioning goes into homes and fixes many central AC units.

“The problems are ideal. Normal capacitors being weak or they are low on freon,” said Talamantes.

Talamantes said you can find the capacitors on the outside part of a central AC unit. Most damaged capacitors from issues like power outages and look burnt.

One thing Talamantes pointed out people don’t know that even though the AC is not on during the winter it’s evaporator coil is still working nonstop.

“300 to 400 pounds of pressure when they are running of course,” said Talamantes.

Talamantes added companies like One Way usually work with the homeowners warranties and to make sure your AC works properly you’ll need to get it checked by an HVAC technician.

“If we see a problem we would want to replace it now versus when it’s 90 or 100 degrees.”

Some things the technician will check are the AC’s air flow, motor, and compressors.
