The city of Midland said safety is the reason they added this 4-way stop.
The city said the 4-way stop is necessary with the new road opening. Homeowners in this area has expressed concerned about the amount of traffic going through residential streets in order to get to new areas on the southwest side.
Originally the city wanted to make this intersection into a roundabout but it would be too expensive. The city said engineers will continue to watch traffic flow closely.
The road extension is pedestrian and bike friendly, connecting an existing hike and broke trail. Making three total miles of trail between Beal and Lancaster park.
The new road will open Tuesday morning after a ribbon cutting. The new portion of road extends from Leisure Dr. to the intersection of Illinois Ave. and Thomason Dr.
