ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

$5,000 was donated to the Odessa Police Department for bullet proof vests for their K-9's.

We brought you the story last month.

The K-9 officers say their furry companions are put in harm's way on a daily basis. So, they reached out to the public for help.

Ameripride saw our story and donated the money needed, to outfit the dogs, as well as buying new training equipment.

But they weren't the only ones to reach out to support the blue.

"We got a lot of calls. Not just business people but private citizens that were wanting to help us out. It was surprising. We were getting calls within 10 to 15 minutes from when the story came out we were getting calls," said Lt. Carey Sampson with the Odessa Police Department.

The Odessa Police Department says the support helps them stay positive on a day to day basis.

Ameripride says they like to get involved in the community, as much as possible, and thought what better way to protect the community than protecting the furry dogs who protect us and their officers.
