The Midland Police Department is warning residents about a new scam that is being reported.

We're told the scam is moving across the State of Texas and is targeting the elderly at their homes.

We're told the scammers go to the elderly folks homes and claim they saw a squirrel go into their attic through a hole in the roof.

The scammers will offer to fix the roof or kill the squirrel for a cash payment.

However, according to the report, the scammers will only make superficial adjustments to the roof or bring back a dead squirrel that wasn't in the attic.

Police said no reports have been made in Midland yet but several cities including San Angelo, Abilene, Fort Worth, Austin and Houston have received reports.

Police say if you are contacted by a suspicious solicitor, call (432) 685-7108.
