It's officially March Madness for the UTPB basketball team.. The Falcons landed in Denver on Thursday in preparation for their  NCAA Division II tournament opening game on Saturday.

The number 2 seeded Falcons will take on Texas A&M Kingsville in the tournament opener.

The Falcons are flying high after winning both the Lone Star Conference regular season and conference championships in their very first year in the LSC.

Head Coach Andy Newman says the teams hard work started right from the very beginning this season.

"You know we've been practicing hard since the fourth day of school, which is August and so now guys are starting that stretch run here and so we're trying to stay loose trying not to do too much basketball stuff in practice, try to save the competition for the actual game." Newman said. "But these guys are focused and ready and this is what you grow up wanting to do. If you're playing college basketball, you want to be playing in March."

UTPB takes on Texas A&M Kingsville at 3:30 p.m. in Golden, Colorado this Saturday.
