MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - It was an intimate setting, no board members, just Dr. Peter Flynn and Nola Wellman consultants from the search firm; Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, picking the brains of everyone in attendance about the next superintendent for the district. A decision that is important to parents like Heather Bredimus.
"I have two kids currently enrolled in Emerson elementary and I have a 1-year-old and I'm pregnant with my fourth, so I'm invested for quite awhile," said Bredimus.
Strengths, challenges, and qualities the next superintendent should have were all talked about the nearly hour and fifteen minute forum. Bredimus said experience especially on where the district is heading is important for the next super.
"The school board mentioned that they specifically wanted to look into charter schools. I know the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is very interested in that, so if that is the way education is shifting, our superintendent definitely needs to be knowledgeable about that," said Bredimus.
Bredimus added while the turnout may have been low there has been input from parents and the community online. So for Bredimus and other families like hers who will be impacted by this next district leader, she could only wish that person luck.
"We all have different ablilties but we're here for them because we are invested in our children and in our community," said Bredimus.
If you missed out on Tuesday's meeting, another will take place Wednesday morning at the Midland ISD administration building at 9:30 a.m.
