ODESSA, TX (KWES) - A California fugitive is behind bars accused of running from Odessa Police.
Oren Warren, 75, is accused of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest or detention and assault with a deadly weapon (warrant).
Back on Friday, officers were called out to the area of Oakwood Dr. and JBS Parkway in reference to shots being fired.
Officers learned that the suspect was last seen walking southbound on JBS Parkway.
Following a search of the area, officers located a man matching the suspect's description standing in a parking lot near Highway 80 and JBS Parkway.
According to the report, as Warren was being patted down for weapons, officers felt what appeared to be the handle of a firearm, inside Warren's pocket.
That's when, police said, Warren immediately began to pull away and began running from police.
Warren was later caught and taken into custody.
Officers later found the handgun in the backyard of a home.
Following a records check, officers learned that Warren had a felony conviction out of California for robbery and a warrant for assault with a deadly weapon.
Warren was taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
