(KWES) - One step closer to state, a hard fought win under the Friday Night Lights for the Iraan Braves. But in an instant, the thrill of victory, the excitement of getting to play another day... vanished.
My heart sank when I heard the news. I cannot fathom the roller coaster of emotions... the highest of highs down to the lowest of lows.
In the state semifinal game this Friday in Abilene; the sideline will look very different. There will be great void where a member of the Iraan family once stood.
But in the stands, you will also see a big change. Cheer squads from across the state and eastern New Mexico choosing to stand with Iraan. Many have printed custom T shirts to show their supports. Businesses like Chick Fil A are chipping in too by providing a meal to all cheer squads headed to the game.
Consider this: No surprise, I am hearing that even the cheer squad from the school they defeated the week prior will be in attendance Friday. Clearly, this is no longer just about a football game, it's about so much more.
