Friends of Liz Pope create cross with her name in her honor

As two communities continue to heal, friends of Liz Pope said they decided to light up the highway going into Sheffield, Texas in her name because she shined as bright as the stars.

Sheffield, TX - As two communities continue to heal, friends of Liz Pope said they decided to light up the highway going into Sheffield, Texas in her name because she shined as bright as the stars.

Lisa Coots, one of the people who created the lighted cross said, "We felt like this was a small gesture we could make to show respect for Liz along with the Castaneda and Pope family."

Coots and her husband created the monument for Liz Pope on their ranch. The couple said they came up with the idea Monday night and started on it early Tuesday morning.

"The cross has been welded, lights were added on to it. We spelled out Liz in wood and stapled lights all around her name so they would show up at night," said Coots.

Coots shared the same sentiments about Pope as everyone else.

"She always had a sweet word coming out of her mouth," said Coots.

Coots added Pope's name will continue to watch over the community as it shines from the top of the hill for the foreseeable future.

"We just hope that the Castaneda family travel this road and see the small gesture that we did to show respect for Liz."
