Shirts sold to honor Iraan cheer sponsor killed in bus crash

IRAAN, TX (KWES) - The small community of Iraan is coming together to remember the victim of the tragic school bus crash. A local spirit shop is selling shirts to honor Liz Pope, the cheer sponsor, who passed away over the weekend.

Roxy Cravens opened The Spear-it Shop a few years ago.

"We do stay busy. Football is our high season," said Cravens.

The store sells t-shirts, hats, jerseys, all so that Braves fans can cheer on their team in style.

"Little boys love to have their favorite football player's number," said Cravens.

Cravens says she never thought she would have to make a shirt honoring Liz, the cheer sponsor known for her spirit.

"Last night we thought of this because Liz believed in the boys and she was never absent in the stands," said Cravens.

Since word has gotten out about the shirts, the phone has been ringing off the hook.

More than 300 orders have been placed. One inquiry even coming from Germany.

Locals and even those from out of town plan to honor Liz and the Braves by wearing the shirts this Friday at their game in Abilene.

"She would be proud. She would say, 'go out there and get them. Bring that trophy back where it belongs," said Cravens. "She's still with us. She will be in those stands."

The $12 shirts will be sold until Wednesday. From the proceeds, $3 for each shirt will be donated to the fund set up for the victims of the crash.

To purchase a shirt, call (432)-639-5001.
