LUBBOCK, TX (KWES) -

One person remains in the hospital in Lubbock following a tragic accident in Howard County on Friday night that left a cheer sponsor dead and several injured.

Eric Finley with University Medical Center said Christina Garlock, who was driving the bus, is listed in satisfactory condition.

Katie Kent, who was a cheerleader on the bus, was released from the hospital on Monday and another cheerleader, Kiara Hodge, was released from the hospital on Sunday.

The accident happened on Interstate 20, near mile marker 173.

DPS Troopers said the driver of an 18-wheeler swerved to the right to avoid hitting a car that slammed on their brakes in front of them. The 18-wheeler driver lost control crossing the median and hit the school bus.

Elizabeth Pope, 52, who was a cheer sponsor for six years and was a computer lab teacher at Iraan-Sheffield ISD, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Counselors are available for any students affected by the tragic accident.
