10-year-old escapes mother's shooting attempt

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

A mother was arrested for holding her daughter at gun point Wednesday afternoon.

Andrea Swilling, 41, admitted that she was suffering from schizophrenia and depression and that she wanted to kill her daughter.

Odessa Police responded to the 4900 block of Cordova St. just after 4:45 p.m. contacting the 10-year-old daughter who stated that her mother had put a gun to her head and attempted to shoot her.

A witness confirmed that a gunshot was heard at the residence.

Swilling's daughter fled the scene to a Ross Elementary for safety.  

Officers located an empty shell casing and handgun, which was jammed due to a double feed.

Swilling has been charged and arrested and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

There were no reports of injuries and Child Protective Services has been notified of the incident.
