MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland City Council unanimously approved body cameras for the Midland Police Department.
The vote means that cameras will be given to officers by mid-January.
We're told the cameras cost about $400 each and will be given to 133 officers on the force.
The city will enter into an agreement with Taser International to get the cameras.
Earlier this year, the department applied for a grant with the governor's office. The department was approved for $133,000, which will cover the first year of the contract. The city must also match the grant by 25 percent.
The cost of the program will run over $120,000 over the next five years.
