PRESIDIO, TX (KWES) - An Odessa resident is in federal custody after attempting to smuggle drugs into the U.S.

We're told the bust took place on Friday afternoon at the Presidio Port of Entry.

Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers said a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado with a U.S. citizen driver entered the international crossing and the vehicle was selected for a secondary inspection.

The vehicle was then scanned by x-ray and showed anomalies in the spare tire.

CBP said a drug sniffing dog was brought in and alerted to the odor of narcotics.

Upon search, officers found 70 bundles containing marijuana.

The driver, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen from Odessa, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security ICE agents to face federal prosecution for narcotics smuggling.

The driver's name wasn't released.
