MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

A Midland woman took over an animal rescue after she said the shelters dogs were going to be euthanized.

Pet Solutions Inc. has had their fair share of issues. The shelter said they've struggled to take care of their animals in the past and now are reaching out for help in finding homes for their more than 50 dogs.

At 63 years old, Candy Matlock did not think she would be taking over a rescue full time.

One of the previous owners of Pet Solutions in Midland left. The other owner and volunteers are now trying to figure out how to adopt out all the animals.

"There was over 100 dogs on property. There wasn't any income coming in and so there was a lack of food and money to take dogs to the vet and several dogs passed away," said Matlock.

The decision to take over was a simple one for Matlock, but now she is faced with more than 50 dogs to take care of and hopefully finding forever homes for.

"It's one person doing it. It's very overwhelming," Matlock said emotionally.

Homer Ellinger owns the place and plans to shut it down if all the dogs are adopted out, but until then, everyone is pitching in to help with costs.

"There is no doubt in my mind God put some of them in our path. We just have to help them. I feel like we have done our part over the years and it's time to step aside and let somebody else do it for a while," said Ellinger.

Pet Solutions is looking for anyone to volunteer, donate or adopt.

Matlock said she's just happy she was able to save them from being put down but she will need some help from the community.

"I don't want people to think we are going to put them down," said Matlock. "We would love for you to come see us and maybe one of our dogs will click with you."

If you would like to help out, call Ellinger at (432) 238-8294 or Matlock at (432) 230-6329.
