MIDLAND- One thing people out here in West Texas love is a good 'ole rodeo. A lot of people across the Permian Basin came out tonight for the last night of the Professional Armed Forces Rodeo World Finals and we were there as well.
Veteran's weekend could not have ended without a special way of paying tribute to our fallen soldiers. Throughout the weekend, the Midland County Horseshoe Arena hosted 3 events sponsored by the VFW.
Fans came out to watch active duty, guard, reserve and honorably discharged veterans and their dependents compete, and tonight a few walked away with some great prizes.
PAFRA President Dan Stewart says there's nothing better when you combine soldiers and some horse riding.
"There's nothing more American than cowboys and nothing more American than that than soldiers. So when you take those two things and put them together, you've got everything you could possibly want. I love the rodeo and I love my country", Stewart said.
"This is the only rodeo association that is all veterans, all military related, either retired or dependent. This is their world final so they compete all year to get here and tonight is the final night and they'll be crowning all the champions tonight", Vice President of Marketing and Promotions, Tammy Dooley said.
