ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Odessa High and Permian Junior ROTC students learned the true meaning of Veteran's Day.
The group celebrated the holiday at the American Legion Post in Odessa.
Students from both schools came together to observe the holiday.
They kicked off their celebration at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at 9 a.m. then they made their way to the American Legion Post at 11 a.m.
"It's an honor, it's truly and honor. I take it on as a second trust to mentor these young men and women and hopefully instill the understanding of citizenship, patriotism, the desire for excellence, so it's probably the best job someone can have once they retire from military service," said Major Jeff Colter, Senior Army Instructor at Odessa High School.
While at the event, Junior ROTC students spent time with their veterans, eating pizza and doing fun exercises.
The mission was to teach the students the importance of celebrating Veteran's Day.
