ODESSA, TX (KWES) - One man is behind bars on numerous charges following a late night incident in Odessa.

Steven Redwine, 40, was arrested Tuesday night on charges of assault on a public servant causing bodily injury, evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest or search and false identification.

Odessa Police said while patrolling in the 4300 block of North Grandview Ave. due to recent burglaries, officers spotted a suspicious person walking southbound on Grandview Ave.

When officers first spoke with Redwine, he gave officers a false name and date of birth.

After officers identified Redwine and a warrant check was being completed, he took off on foot from officers through the south alley of the 4400 block of Hinkle St.

Officers eventually caught up with Redwine and as they were attempting to handcuff Redwine, police said, he punched Officer Langs several times in the abdomen with a closed fist.

That's when Redwine fled the scene again and got into a Ford F-150 and locked the door.

According to the report, Redwine tried to start the vehicle but Officer Langs drew his baton and broke the driver's side window in order to open the door.

Redwine was later charged and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
