ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Odessa city council has a new member.
First time candidate, Malcolm Hamilton won 56 percent of the vote for district one's seat on the board.
Hamilton's opponent and former councilwoman Jo Ann Davenport Littleton had 923 votes, Hamilton had a total of 1,189 votes, winning by 266. Only about half of the voters in district one voted for a district representative.
Hamilton said his plans include affordable housing, making youth sports more accessible and catching up district one on innovation.
"We are the center of oil and gas and the future for gas is very positive," said Hamilton. "Therefore I think it's time for us to get on board with the greater Odessa initiative and really get going to build the district up, just up to par with the other districts here in Odessa."
Hamilton's term will last four years.
