Alpine resident helping with search for Zuzu Verk

The search for missing Sul Ross student Zuzu Verk continues, she's now been missing for more than two weeks. Now one man is using his personal drone to search for her throughout the area.

ALPINE, TX (KWES) - The search for missing Sul Ross student Zuzu Verk continues, she's now been missing for more than two weeks. Now, one man is using his personal drone to search for her throughout the area.

"Even the people that you don't really know, you feel like you are connected to them," said Jason Murrell, Alpine resident.

Murrell has been flying drones since 2012. When he found out Sul Ross student Zuzu Verk, 22 was missing, he immediately asked the police if he could help with search efforts.

"It was tough for me to just sit back and just watch it happen when I could get up and possibly find something," said Murrell.

Murrell knows the city well. He flies the drone looking for Zuzu any chance he gets. If he sees an area that is secluded, he gets the drone in the air looking for clues on her disappearance.

"If I see something that looks kind of hidden or somewhere, I'll stop there," said Murrell. "Anywhere that has got a ravine that seems hard to access that they would have any trouble doing."

So far, Murrell hasn't had any luck. Police have also utilized drones. Personnel has searched on foot and by air. They have looked in surrounding Brewster, Presidio and Terrell Counties and still nothing.

Murrell said although he doesn't believe he will find anything, he will continue until he is told not to.

"Anytime I get a chance or if I am driving home from work, after work, lunch break,  it's usually what I do. I go and hit a spot and just look," said Murrell.

Anyone with information on Zuzu's disappearance, should call the Alpine Police Department at (432) 837-3486.
