Over $1 million worth of marijuana seized from Big Bend backpackers

MARFA, TX (KWES) -

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Thursday the seizure of 1,484 lbs. of marijuana from several groups of backpackers attempting to smuggle the contraband into Big Bend.

Between October 17 and 23, 24 people were arrested for attempting to carry marijuana in backpacks across the border. In total, the marijuana is worth about $1.18 million.

According to authorities, 23 of the men were from Mexico and one was a United States citizen.
