Boy Scouts headmaster indicted on aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a child

Joseph McCormick, 35, was indicted on aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a child, sexual contact on October 13.

REEVES COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Joseph McCormick, 35, was indicted on aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a child, sexual contact on October 13.

The Reeves County Sheriff's Office began investigating allegations of aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old child on November 23, 2015.

Police say Joseph McCormick, 35, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault on December 2015. He bonded out on $50,000 shortly after.

Authorities have confirmed McCormick was a Boy's Scout Headmaster.

After being indicted, McCormick was re-arrested on a charge of indecency with a child.

McCormick is currently out on bond, pending his court date.

"Reeves County Sheriff's Office would like to re-assure the citizens of Reeves County that the case is currently an isolated case," said Captain Ernesto E. Lazcano, "McCormick was identified as a Scout Headmaster for Boy Scouts, but the victim was Not a boy scout."
