MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

Cody Brem, an Assistant Coach on the Midland Horned Frogs of the Permian Basin Youth Football League talked about the two friends, Elijah House 11, and Patrick Campos 12, who were killed Sunday night after what friends and family say was a go-cart accident on East County Road 120 near South County Road 1161.

A memorial was set up a little before six Monday evening near the scene of the accident. The people who placed the flowers and crosses held together by a rosary said they witnessed the accident yesterday. The witnesses who declined to go on camera said the boys were coming from a private road before getting hit. Hearing the news, Coach Brem says this loss is going to sting.

"It's affecting a lot of people and it's going to affect a lot of people for awhile," said Brem
.
Brem said the two best friends were shining lights whether or not they had the pads on.

"If you knew the kids for who they were, they were stars; on and off the football field," said Brem.

The Permian Basin Youth Football League posted a message on their page that read in part:

It is with a heavy heart that we share with our PBYFL family the passing of two of our amazing kids. Eli House and Patrick Campos of the Junior Horned Frogs passed away this weekend after a tragic car accident. We ask that you keep them, their family and friends, teammates, and the Horned Frog organization in your prayers during this sad time.

Brem said if he could see his players one last time he already knows what he would say.

"I would probably tell Eli go in there and don't be scared. As for Pat you just had to tell him just do what you do because he was going to get it," said Brem.

Brem added at a team meeting tonight Eli and Patrick's teammates took the news very hard and a pastor was on hand to pray with them. The league where the boys play will hold a special benefit at Gatti's Pizza in Odessa on Wednesday and set up accounts for their funeral expenses at Security Bank locations on North Marienfeld and West Wadley in Midland and on 42nd, North County Road West, and Billy Hext in Odessa. Brem added the team decided to play their scheduled game this weekend as they try to make the playoffs.

We reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety for more information into the accident and we are waiting to hear back.
