Medical Center Hospital to no longer offer health insurance to retirees

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Medical Center Hospital will no longer offer health insurance to its retirees.

In a letter sent to retirees, Medical Center Hospital said post-retirement health care costs have increased significantly in the past year and that the board was satisfied that people would still be covered through Medicare.

Therefore, the coverage will be canceled at the end of the year.

Some people were worried because they didn't think they'd have enough time to apply for Medicare or they weren't at least 65-years-old.

Medical Center Hospital then sent us a statement saying ensuring health coverage for retirees is important and to help those that are retired but not at 65-years-old.

They will provide health benefits through a health reimbursement arrangement on behalf of retirees until they become eligible for Medicare benefits.
