DPS asks for leads in Bexar County cold case

San Antonio, TX (KWES) - The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public's help in solving the 1983 murder of a restaurateur in Bexar County.

On May 22, 1983, Charles Bates, 51, was found stabbed to death inside Po Folks restaurant in Balcones Heights, and enclave of San Antonio, where he was general manager.

An undisclosed amount of cash was also stolen from the restaurant.

Authorities believe Bates was murdered by someone he knew.

San Antonio Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information in this case. To be eligible for the cash reward, tips must be submitted by calling (210) 224-STOP or by visiting the San Antonio Crime Stoppers website at www.sacrimestoppers.com/.

Individuals can also submit a tip through the Texas Rangers' Cold Case website or contact the Missing Persons Clearinghouse at 1-800-346-3243.

This case is part of a DPS public awareness program where one unsolved case is featured each month in order to generate new leads and bring added attention to cold cases across the state.
