ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - One man is behind bars after he allegedly grazed an Ector County Sheriff's deputy with his car.
Deputy Sean Dixon was directing traffic at 16th St. and Knox Ave. late Sunday evening, because of a downed power line.
The driver of the vehicle, Gilbert Ortega, 35, was warned to slow down but instead skimmed Dixon with his car as he drove by.
According to authorities, Ortega then turned around and drove towards Dixon again. That is when Dixon fired shots at the vehicle as it approached him.
Ortega then fled the scene in the car.
The vehicle was later found abandoned just west of Knox on 20th St.
Ortega was found in a field about 500 yards away with a gunshot wound to his left index finger. He was taken to the hospital for the wound.
A passenger, Jose Melendez, 63, was also arrested for evading on foot.
Ortega was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant for aggravated robbery and has a pending arrest charge for aggravated assault on a public servant.
