The Reeves County Sheriff's Office arrested three men Thursday after confirming the suspects were subjects of numerous posts on social media regarding clown sightings.

Authorities say Cesar Ortega, 20, Ariel Salgado, 24, and Aaron Villescas, 18, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for breach of the peace.

The sheriff's office stresses that although just dressing up as a clown is not against the law, to do so and also carry weapons, plastic or not, causes a panic and is therefore a breach of the peace.

According to the sheriff's office, they were worried the clowns could have possibly assaulted children or even get shot themselves by armed citizens.

The Reeves County Sheriff's Office warns that they will arrest anyone who continues any involvement in the "clown epidemic."
