Odessa police arrested an employee of MHMR Monday after nurses at Odessa Regional Medical Center reported witnessing an inappropriate incident between the employee and an MHMR patient.

According to court documents, back on September 25 on-duty nurses witnessed an MHMR employee, Luis Trejo, 38, take nude pictures with his cellphone of a 37-year-old woman who was a patient.

Officers spoke to the unnamed patient, who told them that while she was in the Emergency Room, she allowed Trejo to take the pictures of her breasts and buttocks, as well as engage in other inappropriate sexual contact in exchange for cigarettes.

In accordance with the State of Texas Administrative Code, Trejo engaged in physical conduct of a sexual nature with a person in his custody and was therefore arrested and charged with official oppression, a class A misdemeanor.

In a statement from Odessa Regional Medical Center CEO Stacey Gerig, she emphasizes that Trejo is not an employee of the hospital.

Gerig also says that ORMC's staff responded quickly and they continue to cooperate with law enforcement in this investigation.

Child Protective Services confirmed Trejo is a caseworker in Midland and has been since 2013. He was put on desk duty. He could be facing more discipline which could include his termination.
