STANTON, TX (KWES) -

The Stanton Police Department arrested a male student after he took a cap gun to school and allegedly threatened to bring a real gun and “shoot up the school.”

Tuesday morning, officers with the Stanton Police Department were told of an incident at Stanton High School that had occurred on Monday.

According to officers, the principal told them a student had been caught with a cap gun in class.

When the teacher spoke to the student, identified as Jay Taggart, he pulled the toy gun out of his pocket and then pulled the trigger several times.

The popping noise startled several students. The teacher then stopped the student and took the toy gun from him.

Authorities say several students were witnesses to when Taggart also reportedly said that he would bring a real gun to school and was planning to shoot certain students.

After obtaining an arrest warrant, Taggart was arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat and remains in the Martin County Jail.
