BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) - One woman is dead after a disturbance reportedly turned physical in Big Spring.

Big Spring police say Abel Torres, 28, went to the home of his ex-girlfriend, where she lived with her mother, Irma Lozano.

Officers were told Torres got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend outside the residence when he became violent.

Lozano tried to intervene when Torres allegedly turned to her and shoved her to the ground. When Lozano was found to be unconscious, Torres fled on foot.

Authorities say Lozano was taken by ambulance to the ER, was flown to a Lubbock hospital with a serious head injury but was taken off of life support just after 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Officers later found Torres at a friend's home, hiding in the closet, near the crime scene.

Torres was originally arrested and charged with aggravated assault but his charges have been increased to murder.

Torres remains in custody at the Howard County Detention Center where he is awaiting arraignment.
