ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Two teens are behind bars after allegedly evading Odessa police in a stolen car and then running away after they crashed in an alley.
Authorities say officers were investigating an unrelated call in the 1300 block of Wilson St. around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The officers then heard approximately eight or nine shots being fired in the area.
When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a car they believed was involved in the shooting, the car evaded police before crashing into the north alley of Bankhead Ave. and Lindberg St.
Two males then left the car and fled on foot.
Police set up a perimeter until the two were found and taken into custody around 4 p.m.
Zavala Elementary school was placed on shelter in place mode as a result of these events.
OPD found several firearms and other stolen property, including the car that was used to evade officers.
Sabastian Rodriguez, 17, was arrested and charged with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, unlawful carrying of a weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.
John Weaver, 17, was charged with evading arrest or detention.
