ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Two 17-year-old teens are being interviewed by authorities following a pursuit that ended near an Odessa elementary school.

Odessa Police said they were investigating a call in the area of Ada St. and Bankhead Ave. where they heard eight to nine shots being fired from the area of Pine Ave. and Oak Ave.

Authorities said an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on a black GMC Denali believed to be involved in the shooting but the vehicle evaded police before crashing into the north alley of Lindberg St. and Bankhead Ave.

We're told the two teens immediately got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police set up a perimeter around the area and both teens were taken into custody around 4 p.m.

A handgun and other property believed to be stolen was found at the scene, police said.

Zavala Elementary, which was in the area, was placed under shelter in place and school administrators conducted a controlled release of their students on Wednesday afternoon.

The case is being investigated as evading with a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention, theft of a firearm, unlawful carrying of a weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.

The shooting remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
