MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

It's important to never give out personal information over the phone but a phone scam is circulating Midland trying to get citizens to do just that.

Midland Police have gotten reports of a phone scam where the caller claims to be with the Internal Revenue Service.

There are a few red flags you should know about:

  • The I-R-S will never ask for an immediate payment without having mailed you a bill.
  • They will never require a credit or debit card number over the phone
  • Law enforcement will not come arrest if you fail to make a payment

If you think you are being scammed, call the Midland Police Department at (432) 685-7108.
