National Weather Service releases preliminary report on Goldsmith tornado

GOLDSMITH, TX (KWES) - The National Weather Service in Midland has released a preliminary report on the tornado that touched down near Goldsmith on Saturday evening.

We're told the tornado was an EF1 tornado and was on the ground for 16 minutes and traveled about eight miles.

The estimated peak wind gust was 100 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service said tornadoes are classified using the enhanced Fujita scale.

The scale is as follows:

  • EF0 - 65 to 85 miles per hour
  • EF1 - 86 to 110 miles per hour
  • EF2 - 111 to 135 miles per hour
  • EF3 - 136 to 165 miles per hour
  • EF4 - 166 to 200 miles per hour
  • EF5 - over 200 miles per hour

National Weather Service meteorologists said no injuries or deaths were reported.
