ODESSA, TX (KWES) - One man is behind bars on several charges following a weekend incident in Odessa.

Odessa police said they were called out to 8th St. and Allred Ave. in reference to a physical disturbance.

When officers arrived, a 67-year-old man reported to police that he'd been assaulted.

An investigation revealed that while the man was exiting a store, Eric Robertson, 41, began approaching him and yelling insults at him and the man asked Robertson to leave.

That's when, according to police, Robertson punched the man twice in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

Officers later found Robertson in the area of 10th St. and Dixie Blvd. and he was taken into custody and placed in a patrol unit.

We're told that while Robertson was handcuffed and sitting in the back of the patrol unit, he placed his hands in front and got out of the patrol vehicle.

Police set up a perimeter and with the help of a K-9 officer, Robertson was found hiding in an alley in the 1300 block of East 5th St.

Authorities said further investigation revealed that the back doors to the patrol unit didn't have the child safety lock activated.

Robertson is charged with injury to the elderly, escape while arrested/confined and public intoxication.

Robertson was taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
