Woman in custody involved with hit and run motorcycle accident

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa Police Department now has a woman in custody who was wanted for questioning in connection to a motorcycle accident.

On Sunday night, OPD and Odessa Fire Rescue were called out to the intersection of Grandview and Beechwood for a hit and run crash.

Officers found that a motorcycle driven by Calvin Barron, 59, was going north on Grandview when a silver Nissan failed to yield the right of way and struck the motorcycle when it turned left onto Beechwood.

The driver of the Nissan then fled the scene and did not meet the necessary legal requirements of stopping to render aid.

Valerie Carbajal, 21, is now in custody after turning herself in to Odessa police Monday afternoon. Police said she was not driving the vehicle but was the passenger. The driver's name has yet to be released.

Police said she and the driver abandoned the vehicle shortly after the hit and run.

At this time, Barron is in the hospital and is listed as being in critical condition.
