ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Seven male teens were detained following a brief standoff in Odessa on Wednesday afternoon.
It all started around 2:15 p.m. when officers responded to the 500 block of East 94th St. in reference to burglary of a habitation.
The victim told police that several suspects broke into her home and stole several items including a rifle, shotgun and handgun.
Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department said that the victim was able to give a description of the suspect vehicle and an attempt to locate was issued.
Shortly thereafter, an officer in the area of the 900 block of West 22nd St. saw the suspect vehicle and tried to stop the vehicle but seven teens got out of the vehicle and ran into a nearby home.
We're told a brief standoff did take place but the seven male teens between the ages of 15 and 17 surrendered without incident and detained.
Police said the case is being investigated as a burglary of a habitation, theft of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading.
Authorities also stated that they've responded to over five dozen burglaries over the past couple of weeks but it's unknown if these suspects are involved in those robberies.
No injuries were reported.
Ector County ISD said Bowie Middle School was placed under shelter in place for about an hour due to the standoff.
The staff and students were never in any danger, according to administrators.
