EL PASO, TX (KWES) - One woman is behind bars after being caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers with cocaine in the soles of her shoes.

Laura Ramirez, 23, of Ciudad Juarez was taken into custody on Monday.

Authorities said the seizure was made just before 7 p.m. when Ramirez entered the Ysleta International Crossing pedestrian inspection area from Mexico.

According to the report, a secondary exam was conducted on Ramirez when authorities noticed that her shoes were unusually heavy and her inner soles were thick and bulky.

Upon X-ray of the shoes, the soles were probed and authorities found a white power, which tested positive for cocaine.

In all, authorities seized over one pound of cocaine.

Ramirez was later turned over to HSI special agents for the failed smuggling attempt.
