ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The policy that will prohibit Odessa police officers from working off-duty security at places that serve alcohol or bars, has been postponed for at least a few weeks.
The rule was supposed to take effect on September 1.
The city manager put a halt to the ban to review the rule again.
The Professional Police Officers Association is against the new policy. They argue the presence of officers at bars decreases the amount of trouble bar goers get into. It's also a way for officers to make some extra money.
The department says the policy is needed because of a conflict of interest and liability issues.
The city says the policy will now go into affect on September 15.
