ANDREWS COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Heavy rainfall overnight washed out portions of county roads northeast of Andrews and left backyards submerged in feet of floodwater, authorities said Monday.
Larges stretches of NE 7100 remained flooded Monday evening and closed to traffic.
Significant shoulder damage on the newly finished road may require extensive repairs, according to Andrews County Precinct 3 Commissioner Jeneane Anderegg.
She rushed to a neighborhood near Andrews County Airport at 3 a.m. to lead flood control efforts after learning a home was "seriously endangered" by rising floodwater.
Anderegg remained on scene Monday evening after successfully digging a ditch that helped drain standing water into surrounding county property.
"We didn't think it would be this bad," she said of the sudden bout of severe weather. "We're all grateful it wasn't worse."
