BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) -

Hundreds of people could be out of a job in Big Spring and Reeves County.

It's all because private detention centers could start being phased out.

In a recent audit, the Justice Department found that private facilities have more safety and security problems.

Two of the prisons that could be affected is the big spring correctional center and the reeves county detention complex.

They're both run by the GEO Group.

If those shut down, hundreds of people could be out of a job and even more federal inmates would have to be moved.

In a statement, GEO Group said, "the impact of this decision on GEO is not imminent" and that the bureau of prisons will decide whether to extend contracts on a case by case basis.
