ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

One man is behind bars in Odessa on charges of injury to a child after admitting to hit a baby with a couch pillow.

Odessa police said they were called out to the 1400 block of N. Jackson Ave. in reference to an unresponsive 8-month-old baby.

When officers arrived, they spoke with Cory Sanchez, 26, who is the boyfriend of the victim's mother.

According to the report, Sanchez told officers that the baby rolled off the couch and onto the floor.

We're told the baby was taken to the hospital and later airlifted to a Lubbock hospital with serious bodily injury.

The baby's condition is unknown.

Authorities later determined that the baby's injuries weren't consistent with falling off a couch.

When detectives interviewed Sanchez, he admitted to hitting the baby repeatedly with a couch pillow until she stopped crying.

Sanchez was later arrested and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
