Midland authorities warning residents to watch out for IRS scammers

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland Police Department is warning residents after an increase in scam reports involving an IRS scammer.

Here are some tips to remember the next time you receive a suspicious phone call:

  • First thing don't ever transfer money or give out personal information through the phone.
  • If you feel the call is suspicious, write down what they are asking as well as  their name and phone number.
  • Know your rights, the IRS never requests for prepaid debit cards or wire transfer payments and will not ask for a credit card number over the phone
  • Hang up and report the call.
