MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland Fire Department added more to their brotherhood on Friday.

A ceremony was held for 16 of them as they were officially sworn into the department.

The firefighters were sworn in after a year of probation while they completed different orientations and training while also becoming EMS certified.

Midland Fire Chief Robert Isbell said the group that was sworn in will be welcomed throughout the department.

"Our firefighters, when they come on and complete their probationary period, they become a part of our family and having to live at the station with other firefighters, a third of their lives, it really becomes that," said Isbell.

Many of the firefighters said they hope to have a long career with goals from becoming a paramedic to battalion chief.
