ODESSA, TX (KWES) - At a meeting on Tuesday night, members of the board of trustees for the Ector County Independent School District went ahead and voted to publish the proposed tax rate for the upcoming year.
Ector County Independent School District, CFO David Harwell said by law this step is necessary because when tax rates are adopted the public has to be notified. Harwell added the district proposed the tax rate after figuring out the budget for the year.
"We actually adopted our budget in June and the tax rate is actually a separate item and it's done in September," said Harwell.
The district proposed the tax rate to stay the same at $1.15 from last year. The daily operations costs would be $1.04 per valuation while the districts debt payments would be $.11 cents per valuation. The public meeting on September 20th would be the final one before the rate is put in place.
"It would then go to the Appraisal District to be sent out in the tax notices for taxable value," said Harwell.
Harwell added the tax rate could only decrease and doesn't expect anything to change before September's meeting.
